Marcus "Shortie" Winn, 89, retired Postal Service, formerly of Oktaha, OK; passed away, February 20, 2015 in Jamaica Hospital, Jamaica , NY.
Marcus Garvey Winn at age 89 was called home to be with the God and family on February 20, 2015. He was born to parents, Rev. Samuel Winn and Adlaide (Flurry) Winn on April 8, 1925 in Spiro, OK.
After receiving his formal education in Spiro, OK; he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving with pride and dignity. He was honorably discharged. He then moved to Jamaica, NY; where he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, a job he loved and retired from. "Shortie" as he was affectionately called by family and friends, had grown to love New York and vowed to make it his home.
Marcus is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Samuel Winn and Adlaide (Flurry) Winn, four brothers, Earl Winn, Acil Winn, Odessa Winn and Osie Winn, two sisters, Irene Oakley and Addie Cutno.
He is survived by one sister, Oda M. Jackson, Muskogee, OK; a daughter, Wanda Green, and granddaughter, Yvette Jo, Newport News, VA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Home Going Service will be conducted Tuesday, March 3, 2015, 11:00 a.m., Granger-Colonial Chapel, 812 Emporia Street, Muskogee, OK.
Interment will follow in Booker T. Washington Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The family has been cared for by Granger-House of Winn Funeral Home.
