Obituary

On March 27, 1936, a baby girl was born to Enos and Effie Clayton. She was the fifth of eleven children. They named her Margaret Clayton. She attended school in Muskogee, OK and graduated from Manual Training High School in 1954.


Margaret became a member of the church early in life attending Lane Chapel. She later moved her membership to Mount Calvary Baptist Church under the pastoral care of Rev. Reed. After a decade Margaret joined Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Noble. Margaret remained a member there until her passing. She loved reading her bible and listening to her gospel music. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 23 and her favorite gospel songs were I'm Going Up Yonder and Swing Low Sweet Chariot.


She met and married Bobby Gene Anderson, Sr. and with that union gave birth to a son who they named Bobby Gene Anderson, Jr. After that union dissolved, she moved to California. Margaret was blessed with another son, Preston Alphonso Scott. She had the opportunity to work for several well-known people in California. In her late twenties and after several years in California she decided to leave the hustle and bustle of the big city and returned to Muskogee. After returning to Muskogee, Margaret gave birth to Edward Clayton, Mark Anderson (deceased), Faith Anderson, and Hope Anderson. While raising her children, Margaret worked in early childhood education and providing housekeeping services. Later in life she met and married Luther Walker of Taft, OK.


For recreation, she enjoyed going fishing and could spend all day doing so. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was passionate about watching OU Football. Margaret had the gift of playing the piano by ear. On Christmas, she would play Christmas carols and play a game with her children called name that tune.


Margaret was called home on December 29, 2023. She leaves to cherish her memory: sons, Edward Clayton (of the home), Bobby Clayton, Jr. (Los Angeles, CA), Preston Scott (Los Angeles, CA); daughters, Faith Hill (Edmond, OK), Hope Anderson (Muskogee, OK); siblings, Velma Robinson (Ocala, Florida), John Clayton (Muskogee, OK), Louise Pickens (Bakersfield, CA), Lorene Pickens . (Linwood, CA); 29 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, extended family, and friends.


Margaret was preceded in death by: parents, Enos and Effie Clayton, Sr; siblings, Barbara Prudhomme, Marie Denwitty, Naomi Lowe, Isaiah Clayton, and Enos Clayton, Jr.; 2 grandchildren; Tenisha Shauntel Chaplin, Aaron Walker and 5 Great Grandchildren: Que'dynce Anderson, Nevaeh Anderson, Harmony Anderson, Jaidus Pridgeon and Jalaiya Pridgeon

A Home Going Service is scheduled, Saturday, January 6, 2024, 11:00 a.m., Precious Memories Chapel, 2200 Military Blvd., Muskogee, OK; with Kimberly Wilson delivering the eulogy.  Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
