Obituary

On February 20, 1956, Elza Lee and Christine Thierry- Colbert welcomed their third child in to this world, a happy baby girl and they named her Marilyn Marie.

Marilyn attended Attucks Elementary, Historical Dunbar High School until it integrated in 1969 and graduated from the Okmulgee High School class of 1974. Marilyn gave birth to her first child a son, she named him Kevin. She matriculated at Draughon School of Business, Tulsa, Oklahoma, receiving her Associate degree and gained employment in Tulsa. (Like most grandmothers back in the day, mama Christine was not allowing her grandbaby Kevin to move to the city- Tulsa). Marilyn commuted to and from Tulsa for a year until she decided to make Tulsa, Oklahoma her home. Marilyn then gave birth to her second child a baby girl and she named her Chandra.

Marilyn at a young age joined St. James Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Morris B. Behn. When the church closed she sporadically attended New Salem Missionary Baptist Church. In the early 1990's she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Melvin Wallace. She became active in the church serving on the usher board, finance committee and later became a Trustee. She commuted every weekend to attend services.

On April 17, 2002 Marilyn married Robert (Joe) Brown, they were inseparable. In 2004 Marilyn and Joe moved to Okmulgee. For twenty plus years Marilyn was employed at the Tulsa Public School System, she worked as a bus driver and supervisor in the maintenance/Warehouse department until her stroke in 2005.

Marilyn was a person full of life and kept you laughing, but you didn't want to fall under the wrath of Marilyn. She enjoyed playing cards and trips to the Casino. She was not much of an outdoors person. She would say "Fat Girl" lazy and outdoors calls for work or bugs, but you could always count on having a good time whether it was at a family gathering, church or just sitting around, she was comical. She had a good heart, would contribute to worthy causes and help whom she could and she loved her some "Joe". She didn't mind setting you straight and or laying hands on you if the situation called for it. She enjoyed her grandchildren and most weekends she could be found babysitting, BUT only on her terms.

On August 11, 2020 Marilyn received her confirmation that her mansion was ready and she took the first flight home. She was greeted with open arms by her parents; Elza Lee and Christine, husband; Robert Joe Brown, daughter Chandra Logan, her siblings; Deborah Jones, Ivan Colbert, Rickey Thierry and nephew Rickey Thierry Jr.

She leaves to cherish those precious memories her son; Kevin (Wife Michelle) Colbert Okmulgee, OK, Five Grandchildren; Kevin (Melissa) Ross, Bixby, Oklahoma, Kendal Ross, Dallas, Texas, M'lyah Littlejohn, Jakayla Logan, Richard Barnett, and Christopher Littlejohn all of Tulsa, Oklahoma. A brother-n-law Clyde Jones, Fairfield, California. Her Sister-Cousin/Bestfriend Sharon "Candy" (Leon) Anderson of Grayson, Oklahoma.
