On December 24, 1946 in Boley, OK, Edgar "Jack" and Estella Bell Holbert welcomed a son named Christian. His uncle, Reverand Moses Herbert Bell, asked his sister to rename him with his initials M.H. Thus he became Marland Henry.
Marland was raised in Nuyaka, OK joining the family with siblings Myrtle and Harvey. Marland attended Nuyaka High School, and he was a talented basketball player and graduated with the class of 1965. After high school he briefly attended Connors State College then enlisted he in the U.S. Army. During his tenure, he traveled to Germany, Turkey, Belgium, and Vietnam and was honorably retired after 20 years of service. After retirement he worked at the US Naval Computer and Telecom Service in Baltimore, MD for 23 years.
Marland loved living on the East Coast and had many friends who were more like family. He frequently visited the VFW and enjoyed many home cooked meals from a plethora of friends. Marland was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to all who needed it. He was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and loved cheering for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He was a great guy who will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Harvey and James Thomas, and sister, Darnisha Holbert.
He leaves his legacy to one loving son, Marlanda "Jackie" Thompson of Bartlesville, OK; grandchildren, Justin Thompson and Rudi Thompson; sisters ,Myrtle Thomas Dennis and Esther "Tish" Hollier of Okmulgee, OK and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
To his Aberdeen, MD family, he truly loved you and spoke very highly of the good times shared with you. Thank you for being an extension of his family and caring for him unconditionally.
