Obituary

The Lord blessed the world with Martha Jean Hall on April 24, 1931. She was born in Coweta, Oklahoma, the ninth child out of eleven, to Anthony E. and Ida Hall. The Halls were a Christian family and Martha gave her life to Christ at an early age. She attended elementary school and completed her studies graduating from Manual Training High School in Muskogee, Oklahoma, in 1948.

She spent a year in Kansas City, Missouri and then in 1952, her older sister, Palestine Riggins encouraged her to come to Los Angeles, California to look for work. In Los Angeles, Martha thrived. She worked for the county of Los Angeles, she worked as a nurse's aide, and then she worked for the Los Angeles Police Department in the clerical department for eight years. While working she attended Los Angeles City College and California State University, Los Angeles receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and later she received a Master of Arts degree.

She got a teaching job immediately after graduation and from 1965 to 1995 she worked at Sheridan Street School where she taught 2 nd and 5 th grade. She was a skillful and dedicated teacher and she loved her worked.

Martha was an active church member. She joined Trinity Baptist Church in 1952 and maintained her membership until her passing. She sang in the Cathedral Choir which is currently known as the Voices of Trinity and taught Sunday School in the Junior Department. She was the Sunday school pianist, she belonged to the Esther Missionary Circle, and for 15 years she was director of the Missionary Choir.

After her retirement, she added volunteering for the Church's Friday Feeding Program for the homeless population, the weekly reading of stories to children at the local library, and playing and singing hymns for residents at the neighborhood convalescent home. She joined the Oasis Senior Center and sang in the choir and participated in their line dancing class.

Music was Martha's passion. Her sister, Palestine taught her to play the piano and she loved to play and sing hymns at the piano. On several occasions she would put together a program of her favorite hymns to sing for her church family.

The pin that she always wore expressed her Christian outlook: "God is Good All the Time"
