Obituary

Michael Carter , 69, retired IBM manager, resident of Oktaha, OK; passed away, Wednesday March 26, 2014 in Solara Hospital.

On December 12, 1944 a beautiful baby boy was born to Henry Carter and Beatrice Reynolds Gordon, in Kansas City, Kansas.

Michael attended school in the Wyandotte Public School District, where he graduated Wyandotte High School class of 1962. He also attended Kansas City Junior College in Kansas City, Missouri where he met his wife Claretha (Rita) Oakley. They united in marriage in June 1964 and again in June 1985 until death.

Michael began his career at IBM in the mailroom, later advancing to Service Branch Manager. Upon his advancement to retirement he was the Executive Liaison between Hertz & IBM Corp. After retiring, Michael took a sales position at James Hodge Ford, in Muskogee, OK.

Michael was an avid gardener and landscape hobbyist. He enjoyed reading, movies and grilling throughout his life.

Michael H. Carter transitioned March 26, 2014 after a brief illness.

Preceding him in death were his parents Henry Carter and Beatrice Reynolds Gordon, stepfather, Ossia Gordon, sister Gayle T. Carter and a brother, Greg Carter.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife Claretha (Rita) Carter of the home; three daughters, Michelle Carter Brown (Henry), Oktaha, OK; Shannon King Taylor(Tommy), Omaha, NE; LaDawndae Huey- Wilde of Miami, FL; a son Tyrone L. Carter (Rick) of Bethany, OK; 7 grandchildren; Minerva N. Cole (Rodney), Tamia D. Carter, Tarra A. Carter, Tre' Brown, Brandon King Taylor (Kayleena), Christopher King Taylor, Taylor M. Taylor and 8 great grandchildren. Also cherishing his memory are his brothers, Edward Carter and Randy Carter, sisters, Linda Carter Dukes, Debbie Carter Bell, Carolyn Jackson, Karen Carter, Wanda Carter, Stacey Carter and other brothers and sisters. Along with 9 sister in laws, and 3 brother in laws, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

A Home Going Celebration will be conducted,  Wednesday, April 2, 2014, 11:00 a.m., Rayfield Baptist Church, 601 Indianapolis Street, Muskogee, OK; with Rev. Leroy Walker Sr., eulogizing.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 1-6 p.m.

The family has been cared for by the Winn family at Granger-House of Winn Funeral Home.
