February 12, 1933 – March 17, 2024
Mildred Lyons, a beloved mother, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 17, 2024, at 91 years of age. She was surrounded by her family as she transitioned.
Mildred was born February 12, 1933 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Fadna and Mary Deville. She attended Okmulgee Public Schools and graduated from Dunbar High School. After high school, Mildred relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where she married. To this union, three children were born. Later, Mildred returned to Okmulgee, OK, she eventually remarried and welcomed two additional children. She pursued various hobbies including, sewing, quilting, and embroidery, all by hand, cooking, and providing a warm meal for her family and friends. She especially had a fondness for dedicating her time to the church and serving The Lord.
Mildred led a life filled with love, laughter and unwavering kindness. She was known for her gentle nature, determination, compassionate spirit and boundless generosity. She touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Throughout her life, Mildred dedicated herself to ensuring the wellbeing of others. Whether it was through her wise words, or simple acts of kindness, they made a lasting impact on those around her.
She will be fondly remembered for her kindness, her love of sharing with everyone and excluding no one. She was a strong family pillar who gave wise advice and was never judgmental. These qualities will resonate within everyone who loved and knew her.
Proceeding her in death is her mother and father, her seven siblings and her son Darryl Lyons.
Mildred Lyons is survived by her four children, Marcus Clay of Tampa, FL, Donna Goldsby of OKC, OK, Andre Lyons of Edmond, OK, and Patricia Lyons of Okmulgee, OK; her two siblings, Leonard Deville and Creola McDaniel both of Chicago, IL.; nine grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her memory will be cherished forever.
A Home Going Service is scheduled, Thursday March 28, 2024, 10:00 a.m., Jerusalem Baptist Church, 11432 Nixon Street, Preston, OK; with Rev. Leonard DeVille, delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Okmulgee, OK. Visitation will be Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
