Nathaniel J.
Jones, Jr.
September 21, 1933 – July 12, 2018
Nathaniel Jonathan Jones Jr. was born September 21, 1933 in Okmulgee, OK to Nathaniel J. Jones Sr. and Elethel Wilson Jones (deceased when Nathaniel Jr. was 4 years old). Nathaniel Sr. later married Lorene G. Jones, the only loving mother Nathaniel Jr. knew and deeply loved. Nathaniel gained his wings on July 12, 2018. He was well loved by his family and friends. God knew that it was time to take him home to join the rest of his family.
Nathaniel attended Okmulgee Catholic School where he played the Saxophone in the Jazz band, his first real love. He joined the United States Navy in 1950 where he traveled the world including Okinawa, Guam and the Pacific Northwest. During his time in the Navy he played with several Jazz bands and had the distinct honor of being offered to play with the US Navy band. Nathaniel being a homebody declined, as he was ready to return home to Okmulgee and his family. After returning home, Nathaniel attended college in Coffeyville, KS and at Oklahoma State Technical College. Additionally, he continued to play Jazz, fish and play dominoes, just a few of his many activities.
Several years later he married the love of his life Elizabeth (Betty) Flint Jones, blending their families as one. Elizabeth preceded him in death along with his parents, Nathaniel J. Jones Sr, Elethel Jones and Lorene G. Jones, his sister Margurette Jones Burris, his sons Kevin J. Jones Baldwin, Randy Flint and granddaughter Yolanda Moore.
Nathaniel was a hard worker and worked many years at the Glass plant, eventually becoming a supervisor. Several years later he became the Head custodian at Okmulgee Public School, where he later retired. After retirement, Nathaniel could often be found at the Senior Nutrition Center, playing his favorite game – Domino's.
Nathaniel leaves a proud legacy: his only brother Cordell (Marie) Jones, Okmulgee, OK; his children, daughter - LaVone Moore, Houston, TX; Keith J. Jones Baldwin, Broken Arrow, OK; Demetrice (Terry) Tuggle, Okmulgee, OK; Rhonda Simpson, Atlanta, GA; Sylvia (Bryan) Cooper, Plano, TX; 22 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren, a host of loving Cousins and friends.
