Mrs. Norma Fields, age 80, a long time resident of Pierce community, passed away, Saturday, July 5, 2014 in Checotah Nursing Center.
Norma "Ruth" Fields was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1934. She was the beautiful daughter of Grant Jackson, Sr. and Thelma Scroggins-Jackson. Ruth was born in the Warrior community and began her education in that community. Due to a serious burn at the age of 11, she relocated to Checotah to live with her Aunt Lenora Williams "Aunt Coose" so that she could be near the doctor. Ruth graduated from Rentisville High School and attended Nila Jewel Beauty College and became a licensed beautician.
Ruth was a member of Eastside First Baptist Church and knew the importance of keeping God first in all that she did and was very devoted. She was a member of the Gardenia Art Club, NAACP, Warrior School Restoration Organization and Warrior Cemetery Organization. Ruth was always involved in the Scroggins-Westbrook-Freeman Reunion pulling all four of her children and grandchildren along for the action.
Ruth loved to cook for everyone – rolls and cinnamon rolls were her specialty. She loved her grandchildren – "Me Maw" as she was known loved each of them in a special way. She had her own nicknames for each of them. She was a very strong-willed independent lady, a breast cancer survivor and worked very hard to support her family.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her precious aunt, three brothers and four sisters.
She leaves to cherish the celebration of her life: her sister, Freddie Ashley (Nathan) four children: Peggy Prudom (Wesley J. Jr.), Tony Fields (Sharon) Terri Kay Fields and Lee Nora Reynolds (Derrick). Six grandsons: Wesley J. Prudom III (Trey), Katero Reynolds, Dominique Reynolds, Dylan Fields, Derrick Reynolds, II and De'Marius Reynolds. Four (4) great grandchildren.
