Obituary

Norma Jean Morris, affectionately known as "Jean", was born July 5, 1939 to Johnnie and Madeline Morris, in Grayson, OK, the second oldest of 8 children.

Jean was a faithful member of Conversion Ministry Church, under the leadership of her son, until her health failed.

She worked diligently in the Okmulgee Community and was a joy to all who knew her. Jean was employed at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital and eventually started working for Ball Brothers Glass Plant, where she was a loyal employee, until she retired.

Jean was a wonderfully devoted mother to her 5 loving children and embraced every moment with them. She was a gregarious grandmother and great-grandmother, supportive sister, amazing aunt, compassionate cousin and a Woman of God. Jean had a vivacious personality, an infectious smile and a way to make people laugh. She was always able to befriend people everywhere she went. Jean freely offered her wisdom and encouragement to anyone in need. She was known for her quick wit as well as her kind and generous spirit. Jean loved music; she loved playing the piano and trying to make people sing. She loved baking and decorating cakes, although she would try and decorate them with garage sale items. She always said, "I washed them before I put them on the cake." Jean was an avid gardener, handy woman and one of the classiest women around town.

After 80 years, Norma Jean "closed her eyes on this side, but woke up in Glory" on Saturday afternoon, December 14, 2019, while surrounded by a host of loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Madeline; son, Vernon Armstrong; her siblings, Marilyn (Morris) Holmes, Narvell Morris, Michael Morris and sister-in-law, Martha Ann (Woody) Morris.

She leaves to cherish her memory, four siblings: Marcellus (Lelia) Morris of Roland, OK, Melvin (Virginia) Morris of Cocoa Beach, FL, Rose Mary (Ben) Woody of Broken Arrow, OK and Helen (Camp) Steele of Owasso, OK and her four children: Reverend Gregory (Claudette) Richardson of Okmulgee, OK, Debbie Richardson-Barnett of Okmulgee, OK, Rodney (Lisa) Powell of St. Louis, MO, and Melody (Danny) Evans of Okmulgee, OK; her grandchildren: Tiffany, TiAndre, Tamadra, Dantron (DJ), Wallace (KJ), Cannon, and Micah and several great-grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. Also, she leaves fondest memories to a sister-in-law, Shelia Morris, widow of brother Michael and caregiving cousin Gwen Smith. We will sadly miss her.
