Obituary

Oda Mae (Winn)Jackson, age 98, Muskogee,OK; on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 peacefully slipped the bonds of this life with her family standing by her side in the home of a son in Oktaha,OK.

Her passing shall be filled with rejoicing for a life well lived.

Oda Mae Winn Brown Jackson was born in Gans, OK on August 8, 1917 to Samuel and Adlaide (Flurry) Winn. She grew up with 8 siblings, 6 boys and 2 girls, who all preceded her in death. She met and married Fred L. Brown, to this union 2 sons, Fred and Wayne Brown. She later married Albert Goldstein Jackson, they had one daughter Oda Mae (June) Jackson Terrell, who both preceded her in death. At an early age Oda Mae professed her faith in Christ and in her later years became a member of Little Rose Baptist Church, Muskogee.

Much of her early adult life Oda Mae lived in Minneapolis, MN where she was a Tailor Seamstress by profession and a Pattern Maker. If you saw a pattern or could visualize it, she could create the pattern then sew the outfit. In 1973, she and her husband Goldstein moved to Muskogee, OK. She cooked for the Muskogee School District for many years. Oda Mae later began taking art classes at the Muskogee YMCA and the Kiwanis Senior Center, where her talent excelled.

In 1989, she was featured with an art showing at the Muskogee Public Library. She truly enjoyed painting and although she would give some away, and also sold some, she said she would want them back and preferred to keep each painting that she ever finished. Also after she moved to Muskogee, Oda Mae began her daily routine (unless there was ice on the ground) with at least a 3-mile brisk early morning walk, followed by a good bowl of oatmeal.

Oda Mae also loved gardening, fishing and at the age of 87, she began weekly bowling with her nieces Ruby and Arnee, and many times she would show them up. Oda Mae lived a long, healthy, active life until just a few year ago when her health began to gradually decline. She would often tell us "I'm making history for you kids", as she began to climb in her nineties, she was our last family member of her generation, and was only 41 days from her 99th birthday.

Oda Mae Jackson leaves to celebrate her life of 98 years: 2 sons, Fred L. Brown (Jan), Wichita, KS, Wayne F. Brown (Brenda), Oktaha, OK; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, several great, great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
