Obituary

On May 2, 1938, a baby girl made her grand entrance into the world. She was the ninth child born to the union of, Henery and Elizabeth Simpson. Ora would answer to several names, like Ora Lee, Mama and Sally, but there was one name that touched her heart more than any others, it was “Granny”.

She was born in Ft. Gibson, OK. Ora Lee started her primary education at Thompson School and she continued her education at Lincoln High School but she was unable to continue to care for her sick mother.

Ora accepted Christ in her life as a young teen and became a member of Four Mile Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Ft. Gibson, OK. Her faith was a source of strength for all who knew and loved her. Ora was diagnosed with breast cancer at an early age. She placed her trust in God and her faith never wavered. She would always say, “Put it in God’s hands.”

In her twenties, Ora met Theopolis Mayfield. What started as a simple, “Can I carry your basket”, later that led to a family and marriage. They were united in holy matrimony until his passing.

Ora fought a good fight. On June 4, 2026, a merciful call was answered and Ora Lee was called home to be with her husband and other relatives at peace. As Ora makes her footprints across Heaven, she joins her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Simpson, her husband, Theopolis Mayfield, her son, Clarence “Hicks” Grimmett, her daughter, Parthine “Missy” Thompson, three grandsons, Michael “June June” Lee Jr., Ray Allen Simpson Jr., Robert “Dookie” Taylor Jr., one granddaughter, Laretta “Lucy” Simpson, a great-grandson, Jordan Johnson, three brothers and seven sisters.

Ora leaves behind to cherish her memory, two sons, Leslie Willie Cooper Jr., of Muskogee, OK;, Ray Allen Simpson, Ft. Gibson, OK; four daughters, Linda Lee (Michael), Ft. Gibson, OK; Helen Simpson, Muskogee, OK; Carol and Marsha Simpson, both of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister, Lucille Stone, Muskogee, OK; and two special nephews, Toney Nave (Mary), Shawnee, OK; and Henry Sallis (Letha), Edmond, OK along with a caravan of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends

A Celebration of Life is scheduled Saturday, June 20, 2026, 12:00 noon, Timothy Baptist Church, 5530 W. Okmulgee Avenue, Muskogee, OK; with Rev. Joe Wilson delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Four Mile Branch Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, OK.
