Oscar Franklin, 74, machinist, a resident of Muskogee, OK; transitioned Saturday, December 5, 2015.
Oscar "Honey" Willard Franklin, the 5th child of Leothy Sr. and Josephine Thompson-Franklin was born February 18, 1941 in Okmulgee, OK.
He grew up in the northwest community of Okmulgee County and graduated from the historic Dunbar High School and united with Northwest Baptist Church.
Oscar served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return he resided in Muskogee, Oklahoma where he worked as a machinist.
Oscar met and married Willie Idella Mae Aldridge in 1964 and to this union seven children were raised.
Oscar loved to cook his most famous ribs. He loved to sing and play his guitar. He played in a few local bands, including the 5 Aces.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Leothy Franklin, Sr. and Jospehine Thompson-Franklin, brothers, Elbert L. Franklin and Roland Franklin, and sister, Devora Franklin-Bates.
Oscar is survived by his wife, Idella Franklin of 51 years, children, Janice Chatman (Wayne) Ware, Tynetta (Phillip) Franklin, Aretha "Tasha" Franklin (Cardell) Blevins, all of Oklahoma City, OK; Ronny Christopher (Monica) Franklin, Muskogee, OK; Donny Chris (Corean) Franklin, Oklahoma City, OK; Sherita (Charles) Franklin-Hyman, Baltimore, MD; and Wayne Jackson Jr., Muskogee, OK; 3 brothers, Herbert (Janie) Franklin, Novato, CA, Leothy Franklin, Jr. Muskogee, OK; Lester (Zina) Franklin, Okmulgee, OK; 5 sisters, Lenora (Homer) Hanson, Okmulgee, OK; Yvonne Brown, Kansas City, MO, Mildred (Edwin) Ramsey, Tulsa, OK; Charlene Franklin, Okmulgee, OK; Mahalia Hawkins, Tulsa, OK; 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Graveside service will be conducted Friday, December 11, 2015 at 12:00 Noon, Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, OK; with Military Honors performed by Ft. Sill honors team.
A Wake will be held Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Precious Memories Chapel, Muskogee, Ok.
