Osee Garry Oakley was born Friday, April 7th 1944, in Oktaha, Oklahoma; to the proud parents Harrell and Irene (Winn) Oakley. He was the ninth of 15 children born to this union. At an early age, Osee professed faith in God, was baptized, and joined New Hope Baptist Church. Gifted with a beautiful voice, Osee practiced and became the church pianist for many years.
Osee was a proud graduate of the historic MTHS Class of 1962. While a student, he gained leadership and rank within the Future Farmers of America, led by W.G. Parker.
Osee enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1964, and served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1966.
After high school, he married Joyce Anderson-Shannon, and to this, one daughter was born – Desiree. Later, Osee met, and married for 34 years, Dahlia (Pardo) Oakley, and to this, one son was born - Peter.
Being from Oktaha, Oklahoma, Osee loved the country. But he later moved to New York City, to begin his career as a communications technician. While still working, he began investing in the land his parents allotted him. He built a beautiful pond, stocked with Koi fish, and he also raised peacocks. He continually worked to improve the Oakley homestead.
In 2007, Osee made the decision to retire – leaving New York City and returning home. He enjoyed his retirement years occasionally traveling to visit his family in different states, researching holistic methods, and watching his Koi from his deck.
In the last years of his life, his older sister, Ruby Tucker, dedicated much of her time to caring for Osee.
On Easter Sunday morning, March 27, 2016, Osee completed his last season.
Osee was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Harrell and Irene Oakley; one sister, Mildred Hill; and two brothers, Harold Jr. and William C. Oakley.
