Pastor Bobby
Joe Thompson
June 19, 1939 – February 26, 2021
Bobby Thompson was born June 19, 1939, in Boynton, Oklahoma, to parents Robert and Clara (Dixon) Thompson.
He attended Wheatley Grade School, and graduated from Boynton High School with the class of 1957. While in school he proudly exhibited his basketball skills with the Boynton Cardinals basketball team. After graduating high school, Bobby enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country for 22-years, from September 1958 – August 1980, retiring from the military with the rank of Platoon Sergeant.
On December 5, 1965, he united in holy matrimony with Birdie Dean Conley. They traveled the world while Bobby was still in the Army. He and Birdie enjoyed 46 years of marriage before her passing on December 14, 2011.
Bobby loved education and learning. After retiring from the Army he enrolled at OSU Okmulgee and graduated as a skilled Heat and Air Technician and graduated from OSUIT trade classes in carpentry and small engines. He then attended Green Country Technology – Okmulgee, graduating with an associate degree in "Introduction to Computers."
After schooling Bobby began employment with Boynton Public Schools for a number of years in several capacities that included bus driver, custodian, and assistant basketball coach to Coach Jerry Belton. Boynton won several championship rings during his coaching years. Bobby also served many years on the Boynton-Moton School Board.
Bobby had a love for animals that was evidenced by the many goats, sheep, cows, chickens, rabbits, llamas, etc. that made his property more like a petting zoo. He also enjoyed fishing. He was a thoughtful, kind, quiet, gentle giant of a man but very approachable.
Dedicated to his calling to the ministry, Bobby served as Assistant Pastor at Eastside Church of God in Christ, Okmulgee, OK; Pastor of Church of God in Christ, Haskell, Ok; and Pastor of Church of God in Christ, Gibson Station, Okay, OK., until the Lord called him home.
Bobby's homegoing was preceded by his parents, Robert and Clara Thompson; wife, Birdie Dean Conley Thompson; sister, Mary Alice Holland; and brothers Freddie Thompson and Eddie Thompson.
He leaves to cherish his memory a sister, Henrietta Blocker; brothers Billy (Barbara) Thompson, and Charles (Quindella) Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and his church family of Church of God In Christ in Gibson Station, OK.
A (PRIVATE) Home Going Celebration will be conducted, Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in the Precious Memories Chapel of House of Winn Funeral Home-Muskogee, with Rev.
