Obituary

R.D. Brown Sr.,"Pops", in his 80th year, passed away peacefully at his home on April 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving children.

R.D. was born on June 15, 1944, in Wetumka, Oklahoma, to Lonnie C. and Velma Brown. He was the eldest of twelve children, and from an early age, it was clear he was someone special. R.D. was a naturally curious soul, always asking questions—"Why is the sky blue? What makes the sun shine?" His father would sometimes say, "Shut up, you ask too many questions," to which R.D. proudly replied, "My teacher says to ask questions." That spark of curiosity and hunger for knowledge stayed with him throughout his life.

He attended Manual Training High School with the class of 1962, where he made many lifelong friends. In 1964, R.D. met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Derrick. They married in 1971, where they began their legacy on Love St, and from their union were blessed with three children.

R.D. became a faithful member of Greater Shiloh in 1973, where he found strength, fellowship, and spiritual growth.

He began his working life as a dishwasher at Server's Motel, then worked for James C. Leake at Antique's INC for 25 years. He later joined Georgia Pacific, where he remained until his retirement in 2006. R.D. was a dedicated and hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family. In his free time, he enjoyed working in his yard and garden, tinkering with clocks, and cherishing moments with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

To his grandchildren, he was lovingly known as "Pops"—a name that captured his gentle heart, his steady presence, and the deep love he shared with each of them.

He is survived by his children Stevie (Rosalyn) Brown, Beulah Joyce (Tony) Horn, Ardee (Amber) Brown Jr., and Glenn (Jenny) Brown, 19 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Cedric C. (Danetta) Brown, Lonnie (Rita) Brown Jr., Robbie (Kristal) Brown, Baby Vee (Winnard) Brown, Jestene Bradley, Wonda L. Brown, Annette Brown, Sequita (Raymond) Woodard, and Carmel Brown; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

R.D. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Ann (Derrick) Brown; his parents, Lonnie and Velma Brown; his brother, Lieutenant Brown Sr.; his sister, Bobbie S. (Brown) Wigfall; and his grandson, Andrew Jonathan Horn.

R.D. Brown Sr.'s legacy is one of love, wisdom, and a never-ending desire to learn and grow. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
