Obituary

"A Good Soldier" GONE HOME,  Rayfield Robertson, age 95, a former resident of Pierce, OK, transitioned in his sons home in Newalla, OK on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

The life and legacy of Rayfield Robertson, affectionally known as "Cump" began on June 21, 1928 when he was born to Leroy and Matilda (Stidham) Robertson in Pierce Oklahoma. Cump along with his siblings grew up in Pierce where he attended Warrior school through the 8th grade.  Some of his fondest memories included playing baseball and watching the horse races down by Daddy Roy's road.

In 1950, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. During his 22 month tour of duty, he was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant, which was a significant achievement by Army standards.

He married Pearlean (Jones) Robertson on June 12th, 1952. He was a devoted husband, excellent provider, and great father to their 7 children. They moved to Wichita KS in 1957, where he opened a Auto Repair Shop on 14th and Hydraulic.  He later built a garage behind his home where he often worked into the night doing what he loved. He was employed with the Cudahy Meat Packing Company, while also employed at Boeing Aircraft Company at night.

In 1973 he moved his family back to the farm in Pierce Oklahoma where it all began. He loved the country life, his cows, his land, and growing vegetables.  Purple Hull peas, Greens and Watermelons were his signature crop, where people from all over, even as far as Kansas City couldn't wait until they saw his big green truck with sideboards loaded down with those sweet melons, greens and fresh peas pulling up.

Cump blessed family, friends, and strangers by doing anything to help those in need.  He sacrificed for his entire family. It wasn't unusual for him to invite strangers to his home to help repair their vehicle and get a good home cooked meal. He was a kind and generous man who had a tremendous work ethic and a handshake that you would never forget.

Cump had several mottos…  A man can buy anything he wants, if he is willing to work for it, and … If You Owe the Man, Pay the Man. But the most profound one was… Right is right and Wrong is wrong… just to name a few.

Rayfield Robertson was a dedicated and faithful member of MT Olive Baptist Church and held many positions including Superintendent, Deacon, Treasurer and Sunday School teacher for many years before his health declined.
