Obituary

Ronnie Lee Newton was born on August 16, 1942 to Frank & A.D. Newton in Wagoner County. At an early age, he professed hope in Christ, and was baptized at St. John Baptist Church of Gibson Station. Ronnie attended elementary school at Phyllis Wheatley Elementary in Gibson Station. He continued his education at Wagoner Lincoln High School.

Being a hard worker, Ronnie began his adult years working with Curtis L. Cunningham Construction and Dave Freeman Construction. He also worked as a foreman at the OG&E Warehouse. He later started his own concrete construction company, "Newton & Associates," which provided employment opportunities for many of his family and friends for 30 years. His concrete construction projects are showcased all around Muskogee with integrity and cost-effectiveness; including public schools, nursing homes, businesses and parks.

As a young man, he met and married Shirlene Robinson of Wagoner, OK. Two children were born to that union. This marriage was later dissolved. After a long courtship, he married Sherron Boozer on Oct. 15, 1977. They made their home in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Five children were born to this loving union. He was a devoted husband and father.

Ronnie was treasurer of Muskogee's Juneteenth Historical Foundation and a member of the Gilford Good Samaritan Foundation, providing food for the Muskogee Community. He was a man who loved God and was dedicated to his church; serving as an Ordained Deacon, a choir member and Chairman of the Building Fund at Bloodbought COGIC in Muskogee, Oklahoma until his health began to fail. He is responsible for constructing an additional parking lot for Bloodbought, and he made sure every woman received a flower on Mother's Day and a balloon on Valentine's Day. He made referrals of honest, trustworthy companies to the elderly for home repair services. He never met a stranger, regardless of race. He loved and tried to help everyone, sharing vegetables from his garden.

On January 11, 2018 in Cornerstone Hospital of Muskogee, OK, the Lord, in His infinite wisdom, relieved Ronnie of his suffering, when He called his servant home from labor to reward. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brothers Clint, Jeff, Eugene, and his son, Ronnie Richard Newton.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Sherron, of the home, 3 sons, Johnny and Michelle Pettis of Texas, Ronnie Newton Jr. and Roger Newton both of the home; 3 daughters, Gloria Newton of Wichita, KS, Ronnetta and Thomas Hill of Smithville, NC and Sherron and Roman Palmer of Muskogee. Three brothers; Robert and Frankye Newton, Floyd and Marsha Newton, and Chester Jack and Diana Newton all of Muskogee, OK; one sister, Franclo Murray, of Kansas City, Kansas, 4 Sisters-in-law, Dorothy Newton of Redbird, OK, Patricia Newton of Taft, OK and Ray Ella Newton of Muskogee, OK; Claretta Newborn of Arkadelphia, AR, one brother-in-law, Henry Boozer of Arkadelphia, AR, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a host of other Uncle, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, cousins and friends.

A Home Going Celebration is scheduled, Saturday, January 20, 2018, 11:00 a.m., Faith Deliverance Christian Center, 910 South "D" Street, Muskogee, OK; with Overseer Clark G. Gilford, Sr., eulogizing.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Gibson Station, OK.

Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
