On September 16, 1943, a beautiful Rose bloomed to Mary Jane & Bennie Gist, Sr. in Haskell, OK. They named her Rosetta Gist. She was born eighth out of ten children.
Rose, as she was affectionately known as and compared to, accepted God at an early age. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Haskell. She joined Mt. Rose Baptist Church, Coweta, then retuning to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Haskell. Rose was active in the choir and in church until her health failed. She attended Booker T. Washington High School in Haskell. Rose was employed with the Haskell Nutrition Center for thirty years.
Rose had a smile that would light up the world and that same smile attracted many people too her. She loved people, loved music, was genuine, giving, and opened up her home to many teenagers trying to finish high school while going through hardships at their home. She would pick up children on her way to work and drop them off at school, even if they didn't want to go. Rose LOVED GOD, HER FAMILY, CHURCH, PLANTS, AND COOKING. Rose was the green thumb of the family, she was always saving someone plant. Momma will be tremendously missed.
In her seventy-second year of life, Rosetta surrendered her soul to God on August 26, 2016 in Haskell, OK.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Josephine Oliver, three brothers, Bennie Gist Jr., Julius Gist Sr., Arthur Lee Gist, two sisters, Utella Gist and Mattie Gist Chaney.
Momma leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy, Carolyn Houston, Haskell, OK; Selina DUrant, Tulsa, OK; Loretta Harris, Haskell, OK; Angela Harris, Tulsa, OK; DeAnn Gist, Haskell, OK; Carnita Oliver, Tulsa, OK; Joseph Oliver, Summit, OK; sixteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, three sisters, Lizzie Metcalf, Spencer, OK; Alfretta Wilson and Peggy Gist, both of Haskell, OK; one brother, ST Gist, Haskell, OK; along wit a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends and a special daughters, Afia Wright and Delores Heck.
A Home Going Service is scheduled for Saturday, September 3, 2016, 2:00 p.m., First Baptist Church, 1401 N. Haskell Blvd., Haskell, OK. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Haskell, OK.
Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
