On September 15, 1944 in Muskogee, OK; an amazing baby boy was born to Horace F. Bruce and Evelyn Brown Bruce. He was named Roy Oliver Bruce. Roy attended school at Langston Elementary and Sadler Junior High School. He received the Lord Jesus as Savior in 1962 under the late great Elder F. D. Lawson, Sr., Pastor of Shawnee and Spruce Church of God in Christ. Roy was an usher and helper. He loved Sunday School and was a faithful tither and giver. After the close of Shawnee and Spruce, Roy joined Goodwill Church of God in Christ. He loved his pastor, Elder John Martin and his church family.
Roy loved the Lord and his extended family of 60 years. He would proudly tell everyone he met that he was the same as a Milton. He enjoyed being with family on ALL holidays. Christmas was big too him. He always wore his Christmas hat and carried a huge bag of gifts for everyone. Milton family reunions were another one of his favorite times for celebration. Whether in Muskogee or Washington D.C., Roy was there and sometimes would stay for a month with his sister and D.C. family. He loved cookouts by his late brother and would usually be the first one there, making sure the family had their spot at the park. He could always be found at football games, birthday parties, or just hanging out with his family he loved so much.
Roy loved children and would walk to the bus stop for years to make sure all the neighborhood children were safe and protected. He would always sing, letting the devil know he was their guardian angel.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Roosevelt Duncan, Arthur, Edward, and Claudius, sisters, Mamie Jewel, Josephine and Bernice.
Roy leaves to cherish his memory, his brothers, John Quincy, Wade and Louis, sisters, Opal, Verna, Liz and Deloris, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and his beloved pastor and church family.
