Ruben
Sallis
July 19, 1950 – December 31, 2023
On a warm summer day in 1950, a baby boy was born to Ruben and Viola Sallis. He was named Ruben June Sallis. He was born on the family farm in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. June, as he was known by most, was a hard-working individual. He attended Norwood and Thompson Elementary school. He excelled in the classroom and on the playground shooting marbles, throwing tops, and playing softball. He attended High School in Fort Gibson where he was a standout in Football and Basketball. He furthered his education at Langston University, Northeastern State University and Connors State College where he met his future wife Chylene Kelly.
Ruben June worked at the Corning Glass Plant in Muskogee for 16 years. When the plant closed, he and his family moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he worked as a Social Worker for 10 years counseling trouble teenagers. When his wife's health began to fail, he and his wife retired and moved back to Oklahoma. Back in Oklahoma, he reverted to being a country boy and worked on the family farm and fished at every opportunity.
Those awaiting him with open arms in Glory: his Heavenly father; his beloved wife, Chylene, his father Ruben Sr., his mother Viola and his brother Danny.
Those that remain to wait on the Lord; his two sons Ruben Sallis III and Byron Sallis; his grandchildren, Ruben Markel Gains-Sallis, Deauntia DeShea Jones-Sallis; great granddaughters, Naviah LeShai Irene Jones-Sallis, Trinity Gaines, two siblings, Calvin Sallis [Susie], Sylvester Sallis [Lillie], sister-in-law TeJuana Sallis Johnson. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service is scheduled Saturday, January 13, 2024, 11:00 am, Precious Memories Chapel-Muskogee, 2200 Military Blvd., Muskogee, OK
