Obituary

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness... 2 Timothy 4: 7-8

On August 11, 1935 a bouncing baby boy was born to Mary Jane and Bennie Gist Sr. He was the third oldest child, they named him S.T. Gist. He accepted Christ at an early age, and began his Christian walk at Mt. Zion Baptist Church (Haskell), where he was a faithful member and served on the Building Fund until his health began to fail him. S.T. attended Booker T. Washington School in Haskell, OK. S.T. served his country proudly in the United States Army. He was a retired truck driver, he also enjoyed employment with Muskogee County Transit for years.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Gist; two sons, James and Dwight Gist; his mother and father, Mary Jane and Bennie Gist Sr.; four sisters, Utella Gist, Mattie (Gist) Chaney, Rosetta Gist, and Alfretta (Gist) Wilson; three brothers, Bennie Gist Jr., Julius Gist Sr., and Authur Lee Gist.

He leaves to cherish his memory Genny his loving companion; his daughter Olevia Gist of Oklahoma City, OK; his God daughter KeKe of Haskell, OK; two sisters, Lizzie M. Metcalf of Spencer, OK and Peggy Gist of Haskell, OK; twenty grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A special cousin Dorothy Knight of Kansas City, MO. Bonnie Smith and Joyce Cade who were like sister's to him. S.T. was loved by many and will be missed by all.

A Home Going Service is scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2020, 11:00 a.m., Healing Waters Church, 300 W. Commercial, Haskell, OK; Rev. Bertrand Bailey Jr. eulogizing. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Haskell, OK.

Visitation, Thursday, July 16, 2020, 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Precious Memories Chapel, House of Winn Funeral Home, 2200 Military Blvd, Muskogee, OK.

The family has been cared for by House of Winn Funeral Home-Muskogee.
