transitioned, Sunday, July 20, 2014 in Mercy hospital,
Okla City, OK.
Samuel Escoe, Jr. was born September 8, 1933 to the late Samuel Escoe & Vannie Maxwell-Escoe in Checotah, Oklahoma. He was a Native-American descendent of the Creek Nation.
After graduating from Rentiesville High School, Sam joined the United States Air Force in 1952. His time in the Air Force enabled him to travel the world and live in amazing locations which included Germany, Pakistan and California. Sam proudly served his country for twenty years until he retired as an officer. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Sam moved to Topeka, Kansas and gained employment with The Topeka Capital Journal where he worked as a security technician for 20 years. He was also affiliated with the Masonic Temple.
Mr. Escoe had a passion for horses and was the owner/breeder of several thoroughbred racehorses. For years, he bred and raced his horses in Oklahoma and surrounding states. His thoroughbreds Misty Dawn and Suddenly Able won in several Oklahoma races.
Sam was an avid golfer, he was a member of Cimarron National and Cedar Valley Golf Clubs. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Senior Golf Association. He and his wife, Vera, enjoyed spending time playing in golf tournaments all over the country. His golf stats included 6 hole-in-ones. His most memorable golf experience was winning the Grand Championship Fall Military Golf Classic in September of 1986 in Las Vegas, NV. Sam's love of golf allowed him to meet diverse groups of people which fostered everlasting friendships. As in the game of golf he lived his life with integrity. And if the weather was right, you could still find Sam on the golf course. However, he was not teeing off on hole number one. Instead, he would be secretly fishing at an undisclosed location on a golf course which shall remain anonymous.
