Obituary

Sterling Lewis Sr., 84, laborer, Beggs, OK; passed away, Wednesday, April 2, 2014.

Sterling Lewis was born August 20, 1929 to Preston Lewis Sr. and Mary Bell in Couie, Oklahoma.  He was one of seventeen children.

Sterling began his education at Hugo Public Schools and attended the historical Dunbar High School in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.  He later joined the Army after which he worked for Rogers Galvanizing Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he retired.

In 1950 he married Serena Dexter and from this union seven children were born.

On June 17, 1977, Sterling married Charlie Mae Antwine.  From this union there were five children born and he was happily a father to six stepchildren.

Sterling was preceded in death by his parents: Preston, Sr. and Mary Bell Lewis, stepmother, Earnestine Lewis, four brothers, Preston Jr., Albert, James and Wilbert, three sisters, Clarice, Linda Kay and Pauline, also two daughters, Deborah and Phyllis.

On April 2, 2014 the Lord chose to call Sterling home.

He leaves to cherish loving memories, his loving wife, Charlie Mae, of the home, children, Juanita and Patricia, Hot Springs, Arkansas; Sterling Jr., Marcus and Janice, Conway, Arkansas; Charlene and tonya, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Rodney, Linda, and Brandy, Beggs, Oklahoma; Stepchildren, Aaron and Lavern, Sapulpa, Oklahoma; Elaine, Angela and David, beggs, Oklahoma and Anthony, Bristow, Oklahoma; five brothers, Herbert Sr., and Leonard Lewis, Okmulgee, Oklahoma;Derick Lewis, Tulsa, Oklaohoma;Jerry Lewis, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Steven Ray Lewis, San Antonio, Texas; four sisters, Helen Figure and Irether Rice, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; Cheryl Cooks, Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Lurlene Owens of California. 54 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren. Along with a host of other relatives and friends.

A Home Going service will be conducted, Saturday, April 12, 2014, 1:00 p.m., St. Matthews Baptist Church, 1001 Chicago Street.

Interment will follow in our Lady of Grace Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, 1 - 6 p.m.

The family has been cared for by the Winn family at House of Winn Funeral Home.
