Obituary
On April 15, 1934, a baby boy was born to Katherine Davis and Earsey Ousley, he was given the name "Sylvester". He was raised up along with his cousins, Lucy and Evalene Davis by their grandmother, Lucy Grayson-Davis on a farm which was west of Muskogee. Sylvester attended St. Mary Community School in rural Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Sylvester accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age and was baptized at Peters Chapel AME Church in Muskogee where he remained serving as a faithful member in many capacities until his death.
At the age of 18 , Sylvester met a beautiful young lady named Alfretta Chairs who later became his wife. Sylvester and Alfretta had 7 biological children, adopted 1 son and a granddaughter that they raised along with more than 100 foster children together. This marriage was later dissolved.
Sylvester worked in construction and for the railroad until he became employed with Muskogee Plumbing Supply as a truck driver where he would work for over 30 years until his retirement. During his retirement he worked for the Muskogee Daily Phoenix as a newspaper carrier and Muskogee Transit where he transported many patients to their medical appointments.
Growing up in the country, he always considered himself a Cowboy. He loved riding horses and attending rodeos. He was a member of the Branding Iron Saddle Club, The Muskogee Round Up Club and The Wild Horse Posse. Sylvester spent most of his weekends attending rodeos where he knew everyone by name, but his preferred greeting was "cuttin".
Sylvester is preceded in death by his grandmother Lucy Grayson-Davis-Patrick; cousins Lucy Davis and Evalene Davis; brothers Melvin Spencer, Willis Spencer, and Charles Ousley; sister Beverly Ousley-Webb; grandchildren: Austin Ousley, Sidney Ousley, and Kristin Ousley.
He is survived by 2 daughters; Debra Brown (Clyde) and Audrey Gayle Granger (Willie), 6 sons; Edwin Ousley (Nancy), Alfred Ousley, Brian Ousley (Debi), Daryl Ousley, and Leonard Ousley all of Muskogee, OK and Reginal Ousley (Katrin) of Mansfield, TX and a special granddaughter Tyra McGee who they raised together.
