Sylvia Ann (Cherry) Tharps passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, at the age of 70, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Bristow, Oklahoma, on April 11, 1955,
Sylvia was known for her warm heart, fierce spirit, and unwavering love for her children and grandchildren.
Sylvia found joy in the simple pleasures of life—cooking for her family, playing spades, dancing to music, and going to the casino. She was a straight shooter with afirecracker personality who loved watching westerns and her favorite show, NCIS.
She was known as G-MA (Gangsta grandma).
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Tristan Cherry and his wife Tamar of Glendale, AZ; Angel Cherry-Clark; Pleasure Tharps-Dotson and her husband Stacy; and Carlos Tharps of Tulsa, Oklahoma, two bonus sons Kevin Tharps of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Orville Tharps of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: DeLaysha McCall, Trishan Henderson, Tristan Gregory, Iciss Grissom, Jonathan Cherry, Raegan Rose Cherry, Daisy Evans, Amari Ann Clark Audrinna Cherry, Carley Tharps, and her great-grandchildren: Naomi Thompson,Aries Gregory, Zy'eim Thompson, Daylan Young Jr.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl "Santa Clause" Tharps Jr.; her son, Robert Carl Tharps; her parents, John and Alma Cherry; her grandparents, James and Daisy Johnson; her brother, William Cherry; and her sister, Maryland Cherry.
She is also survived by her loving siblings: John A. Cherry and Helen (Cherry) Ellis, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Linda Cherry of San Diego, California. Sylvia was affectionately known as "Auntie" to a host of nieces and nephews, many of whom she helped raise with a mother's love.
Sylvia's strength, honesty, and deep love for her family will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled , Saturday, May 17, 2025, 11am until 3pm, Bristow Community Center, 417 Chestnut Street, Bristow, OK
