It is with deep sorrow and yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Tyrus Andre McBride, who answered the Master's Call to Glory on July 12, 2026, after a fiercely fought battle. Born on August 11, 1971, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Tyrus lived a life marked by devotion to family, community, and the many young lives he touched through his work and passion.

Tyrus was the beloved son of Sharlotte D. McBride and Albert Curtis Hutton. He was predeceased by his cherished mother Sharlotte McBride, his grandmother Bernadine Lowe, and his dear children Tia Ann McBride and Tamara Julia McBride. He is survived by his loving children Brittany Carpenter, Tiffany McBride, Tess McBride, and Thomas McBride, as well as five treasured grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.

A man of many talents and interests, Tyrus attended Conners State College and later served his country with distinction in the Georgia Air National Guard as an F-15 Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Specialist. He carried the discipline and dedication from his military service into his professional life, ultimately achieving the position of Supervisor of Bus Operations with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority.

Beyond his professional achievements, Tyrus was deeply passionate about basketball. He played recreationally with vigor and joy, and channeled his love for the game into a career officiating and coaching. His mentorship of young athletes was not just a job, but a calling, as he inspired countless youth to pursue their dreams with dedication and integrity.

Tyrus was a lover of people, a natural conversationalist gifted with a quick wit and infectious laughter. He brought humor and hope to all who knew him, living audaciously and fearlessly. His heart was always with his family, prioritizing the support and encouragement of his children's interests, academics, and sports endeavors.

Whenever he could, Tyrus returned to Oklahoma, a place he held dear, particularly cherishing time spent with his grandmother, Bernadine Lowe. He embodied the spirit of community and family, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience.

A service to celebrate Tyrus’s life will take place on July 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Rayfield Baptist Church, located at 601 Indianapolis Avenue, Muskogee, OK 74401. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the medical staff and caregivers whose tireless efforts provided comfort and care. Deep gratitude also goes out to friends, coworkers, neighbors, mentors, and mentees for their prayers, thoughts, calls, and words during this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made in Tyrus’s memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his generous spirit and commitment to giving back.

Tyrus Andre McBride will be remembered for his boundless energy, his unwavering love for his family, and the indelible mark he left on all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be profoundly missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
