August 20, 1949 – June 28, 2023
Valerie Yvonne Harris, age 73, passed away on June 28th, 2023. She was born August 20th, 1949, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to the late Edgar Sr. and Emma Montgomery.

1 Peter 4:10 says, "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." Wede enjoyed helping others around her and doing good deeds. As a 1967 graduate of the historical Dunbar High School she dedicated her life to her family, education and serving her community, by earning her 1st Bachelor degree from Langston in Biology and years later she decided to go back and get her BSN degree from Langston University, and started serving her community as an LPN in the medical industry, hospitals, and home health for a number of years. Wede was a kind and caring person who liked to make everyone around her happy and made sure they never went without, even if it meant giving her last. If there was someone in need, she would help them and would even risk breaking her back to do so. This frequently meant she would forego her own needs and desires in order to help people she believed were in greater need, particularly her loved ones. From preparing a tasty dinner in the kitchen to offering food and shelter to many others. She was a real matriarch who never hesitated to share the generosity and pure love in her heart with her family, friends, and even those at her doctor's office. Those who have been influenced by Wede's elegance and presence will treasure, remember, and never forget her passion and integrity.
Valerie Yvonne Harris is survived by her daughter Jocelyn Harris of Austin Texas, grand-daughter Maliyah Gibbs, of Austin, Texas, sisters Joyce Montgomery of Okmulgee, OK, Desiree (Ron) Goudeau of Catoosa, OK, Cecilia Montgomery of Tulsa,OK, Leila Mae Montgomery of Okmulgee, OK, and Victoria Montgomery of Okmulgee, OK.
