June 3, 1954 – August 21, 2022
On the third day of June 1954, a precious jewel was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to parents; Delores and Virgil Guillory whom they named Vanessa Loretta Guillory. As the third child out of six children, Vanessa quickly learned the importance of protecting and caring for her loved ones. Her charismatic nature was independent, tough, and fearless!
In the beginning, Vanessa's primary education started out at St. Monica's Catholic Church where she was baptized. By junior high, she graduated from Carver Middle School where she enjoyed being a majorette! Vanessa's first year of high school was attended at Bishop Kelly where she developed a passion for equal rights by being a black activist within the school. Vanessa's first passion was for horses and as a young child she learned to ride horses her summer's with family in Grayson, OK. During her high school summer years, Vanessa participated in Okmulgee's Rodeo Barrel Racing competitions, winning accolades that showcased the independent tough fighter and fearless spirit she was! In 1972, Vanessa graduated from Booker T. Washington High!
After high school, Vanessa moved out to California to be with family. Within two years she moved back home to pursue an education in drafting. In 1976, Vanessa gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Tamica Guillory and later in 1980 a second beautiful daughter named Teresa Guillory. Soon after, Vanessa faced life obstacles that would lead her to seek counsel in overcoming her battles. During this time, Vanessa met Cecil Brown Jr. and together they recovered successfully! In 1997, Vanessa wedded her beloved husband Cecil Brown Jr.
Throughout their twenty-five years of marriage, Vanessa served in the community leadership as a social service worker of the Salvation Army, a civil servant agent for the DMV, and attended TCC courses earning Principal Honor Roll! Vanessa enjoyed being a homemaker and caretaker for her family and loved ones, especially her grandchildren! Her hobbies included: drawing, knitting, reading, completing crossword puzzles, cooking and making gift baskets!
Vanessa preceded in heaven with her parents, sister(Linda Guillory), two brothers (Kenneth and Tony Guillory), and great-great grandchild (Madisyn Carter). Vanessa leaves in God's care: two daughters, four grandchildren (Shalea Guillory, Caleb Davis, Jalen and Nyla Langston), great-great grandchild (Shylah Watson), two sisters (Virgilene and Wanda Guillory) one brother (Timothy Guillory) and a host of family and friends!!!
A Home Going Celebration will be conducted, Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. in Gilcrease Hills Baptist Church, 2001 W. Newton, Tulsa, OK with Elder Antonio Thompson, eulogizing. Interment will follow in Green Acres cemetery, Tulsa, OK. Public visitation will be Friday, Sept. 9th at Jack's Memory Chapel, 801 E. 36th St. N., Tulsa, OK during the hours of 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
