The Life Story of Velenta "Lenta" Reed-Hopkins

On November 14, 1961, in Hugo, Oklahoma, a beautiful brown-eyed baby girl was born to Deloyd and Corita Reed; they named her Velenta. Velenta was a loving child who was full of life, joy, and laughter.

Lenta, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Dean's Chapel Baptist Church in Muskogee. She was active in various youth ministries and programs. Lenta also participated in Girl Scouts, softball leagues, and the YMCA.

Education being important, Lenta attended Muskogee Public Schools and graduated with the great Class of 1980. She went on to finish her higher education at both Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State Universities. Lenta was known for her bright personality and beautiful smile, which made her successful in her career in customer service and telecommunications for over 20 years at Sprint and Hertz Corporation.

Velenta was a very kind-hearted woman, always willing to help anyone in need. She was a caring and true testament of the meaning of friend.

On August 14, 1983, she welcomed the birth of her son, Daryl Keith Crowder II. In 1987, she married Willie Hopkins, and to this union one daughter was born, Franeisha Lavon. This union was later dissolved.

Waiting in Heaven for her arrival were her parents, Deloyd and Corita, paternal grandparents, Floyd and Mayme Reed, brother, Denoval Reed, cousin, Simone Davis, and many other loved ones.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Daryl Crowder II, and daughter, Franeisha Hopkins, both of OKC, OK; one brother, Pierre Reed of Frederick, MD; one sister, Lynn Reed-Hill of OKC, OK; nieces, Dana Reed-Brown of Chicago, IL, and Bryla Zeigler of McKinney, TX; nephews, Kyle Reed of Ft. Worth, TX, Denoval Reed II of Kansas City, MO, and Tramell Reed of Frederick, MD; and 11 grandchildren, Cheyenne, Symphony, Ralynn, Daryl III, Sebastian, Jayce, Ki'Ya, Ramon, Jasper, Amaya, and Raniayah; along with a caravan of other family, and friends
