Velvet Williams, 90, homemaker, Tulsa, OK; formerly of Okmulgee, OK; passed away Monday, April 15, 2013 in Parks Edge Nursing Home, Tulsa, OK.
Velvet Williams was born to Frankie and Henry Albert Mitchell on March 16, 1923, in Vernon, Oklahoma. She settled in Okmulgee, OK; and became an active member of the Church of the Living God.
Velvet owned and operated a café at two different periods in her life. Her gracious heart and passion for cooking had her always ready and willing to feed anyone that walked into her home. Later in life she became a very accomplished Avon Representative until her health no longer permitted her to continue.
Velvet cherished the time spent with her family. She is preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Mae Mitchell and Lertie V. James, three brothers, C.L. Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell and Otis Mitchell, and a son, Nathaniel Alfred.
She is survived by two sisters, Bobbie Mitchell, Tulsa, OK; and Vera Fultz, Okmulgee, OK; two brothers, Earl Mitchell, Okmulgee, OK; and J.W. Mitchell, Oklahoma City, OK; four grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Home Going Celebration will be conducted Saturday, April 20, 2013, 1 p.m., Precious Memories Chapel, with Rev. Greg Richardson delivering the eulogy.
Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, April 19, 2013 from 1 to 6 p.m.
The family has been cared for by the Winn family at House of Winn Funeral Home.
