Vernell Redo was the 4 th child born to Cornelius T. and Flossie (Scott) Redo on July 23, 1939, in Boynton, Oklahoma. Family and close friends called him "Fuzzy".
The family soon relocated to Muskogee, Oklahoma. Vernell gave his life to Christ at an early age and was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Vernell was an outstanding student and athlete throughout his school years. He graduated from Historic Manual Training High School with the class of 1958. He attended Langston University on a football scholarship and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Langston University, followed by a Master's degree from Northeastern State University.
Vernell was an educator at Manual Training High School and Sadler Jr. High in Muskogee, and at Carver Jr. High School in Tulsa. He withdrew from his teaching career to join the Redo Real Estate business.
While attending Antioch Baptist Church, he met ArmaLene Oakley who was active in the junior choir. Upon graduating high school, Vernell and ArmaLene were married on July 3, 1960. From this union they were blessed with two children and 60-years of marriage.
Being true entrepreneurs, the couple made an outstanding life here in Muskogee, and have been honored with distinguished awards from many clubs and organizations.
Vernell was a beloved member in good standing with Rayfield Baptist Church, and enjoyed all aspects of the services. He was a life member of Kappa Alpha Phi Fraternity; and served as president of the Muskogee Langston Alumni. He was an avid golfer and a member of Muskogee Country Club.
Vernell transitioned from this earthly life into the presence of the Almighty God on Monday,
July 20, 2020, at the age of 80 years+362 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Flossie Redo; sisters Anna Noel and Maxine Ford Stoughter; brothers Cornelius ("Sonny"), and Jerry Redo.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60-years, ArmaLene "Toni" Redo; son, Victor Redo; daughter, Lisa Redo (Eddie Holmes); sister, Semonia Jean Taylor; five grandchildren, Victor Redo, Jr., Jeremiah Redo, Jasmine Redo, Norman Mitchell (Casie), and Jordon Mitchell; three great grandchildren, Jordon Mitchell, Jr., Shela Redo, Jeremiah Redo, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Sherryl Redo, Bobbie King, Margie Oakley, Bhavani Indu, Rita Carter, Brenda (Wayne) Brown, LaTressia (Lawrence) Thompson, Tejuana Sallis, and Alinda Mathis; brothers-in-law, Charles (Margaret) Oakley, Marvin (Marie) Oakley, Rayford Oakley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
A Service of Memory will be conducted Saturday July 25th, 2020 at 5:00 PM in the Rayfield Baptist Church, 601 Indianapolis St. Muskogee, OK with Pastor Leroy Walker Sr. eulogizing. Visitation Friday 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
MASKS MANDATORY with maximum occupancy of 50 mourners at all services.
