Obituary

Virginia Vaughn, age 99, a resident of Tulsa, OK, transitioned on her birthday,  today Wednesday, February 2nd, at Hillcrest Medical Center, Tulsa, OK, her loving family was at bedside.

Virginia Mae Vaughn was born on February 2, 1923 in Chandler Oklahoma, the fourth eldest of Ward and Leona Grier's 11 children. During her childhood her family moved to Flint Michigan where she graduated from Central High School. After Virginia graduated High School, she worked at AC Spark Plugs and married Dean L. Stallworth Sr. from that union four children were born, Dr. Jilda Motley, Leisa Stallworth, Dean L. Stallworth Jr. and Julius Stallworth. Upon her retirement she moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma to take care of her two elderly cousins.

Virginia was a very strong, unique and caring person.  She opened her door as well as her heart to all of those who needed help. Virginia volunteered in World War II in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) where her dream of becoming a nurse came true. She continued to be of service to her community when she served as a docent with the Oklahoma Territorial Museum, worked at the election board and volunteered at the local Food Bank.

Virginia spent her leisure time in various bowling leagues. She also enjoyed dancing, solving crossword puzzles, putting together more difficult levels of the jigsaw puzzles and was an avid reader.

Virginia was truly a woman of God and a faithful member of First Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Hersey Hammons where she was a part of the hospitality ministry. She was available whenever called upon to serve.

In 2015, her failing health caused her to move to Tulsa, Oklahoma with her oldest daughter (Jilda) and son-in-law (Herman). This transition in life gave her the opportunity to love on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  The family felt her love this past Christmas when she purchased cross necklaces for her whole family of which were blessed by her pastor in Guthrie, Reverend Hammons.  This act of kindness brought her so much joy.

Virginia's charitable giving did not stop within her own family, she adopted a family from World Vision.  She gave to many charitable organizations such as Cystic fibrosis and Saint Jude. She never wanted anyone to be left out so because of this, charitable work became her ministry.

Preceding her in death were her parents Ward and Leona Grier, son Julius Stallworth, five sisters, Leola Calloway, Helen Merrill, Lois Rhodes, Leona Baker, Nita Davis, four brothers, George Grier, Clarence Grier, Ralph Grier, Danny Grier, and her husband William Vaughn.

She leaves to celebrate her life; Her children Dr. Jilda Motley (Herman), Leisa Stallworth, Dean Stallworth Jr (Mary), grand kids, Herman Motley Jr (Shareese), Kimberly Grayson (Keenan), Dean Stallworth III, Julius Stallworth (Cierra), Donyel Stallworth (Brandy), Robert Hughes (Shawna), Gino Hughes, Tracey Crawford, Virginia Crawford, 34 great-grandchildren, four great-great- grandchildren, lifelong friend LeEtta Motley and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Reverend Hammons for his prayers, love and concern during this challenging time.

A Memorial will be conducted, Thursday,  February 10,2022 at 1:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church, 401 Broad St., Guthrie, OK with Rev. Hammons, eulogizing.
