Obituary

Wayne F. Brown entered this world on August 30, 1943, in Coffeyville, Kansas, to Oda Winn.  Wayne was raised by Goldstien Jackson and Oda Jackson.

Often visiting Oklahoma, he attended New Hope School for a short time.  After leaving Oklahoma he joined the military at theearly age of 16.  He chose the U.S. Army first, and later joining the U.S. Navy.

While visiting Oklahoma numerous times, he liked a young girl by the name of Brenda J. Oakley.  They later married moving to Minnesota.  Three children were born to the union:  Wenona, Raymond and Reginald.

Wayne was employed with Minnesota Fire Department, being one of the first five Black firemen to be hired.  He eventually rose to the position of Captain.   He retired from the Minnesota Fire Dept.   After 36-years in Minnesota, Wayne and Brenda  moved back home to Oktaha, Okla in 1997.

Wayne  enjoyed assembling model airplanes, and was actually able to remotely fly them.  He also enjoyed flying drones.  When visiting, you could always find him in his garage on his computer, doing his thing.

Wayne and Brenda were blessed to be able to raise their two grandchildren, Omar and Whitney Brown,  from an early age to adulthood.

A TRIBUTE FROM OMAR:   Wayne F. Brown was a loving and caring man.  At times he was very stubborn and showed tough love.  But when he did show love it was overwhelming and heartfelt.  He was more of a father than grandfather to my sister and me.  And I couldn't ask for a better man to fill in that role for us.  He truly will be missed.    (Omar Brown)

A TRIBUTE FROM WHITNEY:  My grandpa didn't do anything halfway.  He worked hard to get what he wanted in life.  I'm so blessed to have had such an incredible grandpa/Dad.  May my grandpa rest in peace.   (Whitney Brown)

On Tuesday morning, December 9, 2025, Wayne was called to his eternal home.  Those who preceded him in death were his parents, Goldstien and Oda Brown; Sister, June; Brother, Fred; and Grandson, Reginald Jr.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Brenda of 61 yars; daughter Wenona of Muskogee; son Raymond of Muskogee/Minnesota; and Reginald aka Reggie of Jackson, Florida; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 9 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law,  multiple cousins and other relatives.

A Home Going Service is scheduled, Friday, December 19, 2025, 11:00 a.m., New Hope Baptist Church, Oktaha, OK;  with Pastor Michael Logan delivering the eulogy.  Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Oktaha, OK.
