Maxine's life began on June 3, 1944, here in Muskogee,OK. She is the third child out of four children of Odell J. Moss,Sr and Bessie Marie (Ewell)Moss, they named her Maxine Marie, after her mother.
Maxine began her walk with Christ from the beginning having had spiritual parents. She knew she had to have a personal relationship with the Lord Christ Jesus.
At the age of eleven, Maxine was baptized by Rev. Hawkins at New Zion Baptist Church.
Then, later she joined Metropolitan Baptist Church, being a faithful and dutiful member until her health started to fail. She was the treasurer of the mission, was in charge of the kitchens, financial secretary of the church, in the mission choir, and on the historical committee with her sister, Evelyn and aunt, Mrs. Eloise McClain.
Maxine started her education at our grandmother's kindergarten school at the early age of three. She attended Dunbar elementary school, Sadler Jr. High School and graduating from the historic Manual Training High School in the mighty class of 1962.
She worked with the MTHS Inc., Mammoth Reunion Committee, she was very faithful. Maxine attended Oklahoma State University, Bacone College and Oklahoma University. She received several certificates from her job. Maxine worked until her retirement on Dec. 31, 1992, at the early age of 49 from the Oklahoma State Employment Security Commission (OSESC). Her job's duty or title was senior interviewer, her job was to work the placement desk administrated testing and job placement for many. She was a member of the International Assn. of Workforce Professionals (IAWP), Maxine was a very busy and active person.
Maxine was very active in sports. Maxine bowled in three different bowling leagues, Tuesday night, Wednesday night and Friday night. Her Tuesday night ladies league team captured the number one in the Class A tournament in Okla. City,OK; her five lady team had a total score of 3010 points. She was a manager for some of the Oklahoma employee's men's softball team, keeping their scores for them when they played. Like I said she was very busy.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Odell and Bessie Moss Sr., her memory will be held in our hearts forever.
Those left to cherish her loving memories are: sister, Vivian(William)Hawkins, Los Angeles,CA; brother, O'dell J.(Tenita)Moss,Jr. Tulsa,OK; and sister, Evelyn A.(Charles)Chaplin, Muskogee,OK; nephews, Michael Moss and Marvin Moss,Tulsa,OK; Chad Chaplin, Henryville,PA; Craig Chaplin, Kris E. Bridges, Muskogee; nieces, Marlynn Moss, Tulsa,OK, Marcy (Ron)Dean, Montgomery AL, Stacy Chaplin, Muskogee,OK Angela Cherry, Dondria(Herman)Gaines,Tulsa,OK; a special little cousin, Kamarie Cherry, Muskogee,OK, a host of relatives and friends and of course her class of 1962.
A Home Going Celebration will be conducted, Monday, 11 a.m. in Antioch Baptist Church, with Pastor Chester Jackson of Metropolitan Baptist church delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Memorial Park cemetery.
The family has been cared for, by Granger-House of Winn Funeral Home. Visitation, Sunday, 3 :00 p.m. until 7 p.m.
