Nathaniel Walker, 85, plumbing inspector, a resident of Oktaha, OK; transitioned, Friday, November 20, 2015.
On April 9, 1930, a baby boy was born to John and Verna "Penny" Walker in New Hope, Oklahoma. He was one of six children, along with Roy, Johnny Mae, John Jr., Vernon and James.
Nathaniel professed a love for Christ at an early age. Nathaniel was a proud member of New Hope Baptist Church. Serving wherever he was needed. His passion was singing, so he made a joyful noise in New Hope's Choir.
He got his primary and high school education in Oktaha, OK. At the age of 16 he moved to Fresno, CA; where he was drafted into the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. He was later discharged honorably from the military continued his life in Northern California. While there he was recognized for his amazing vocals with the Pleasant Travelers Gospel Group.
Nathaniel also received training as a Plumbing Inspector. One of his career high points was that he retired as one of the first black plumbing inspectors in the city of Fresno.
Nathaniel went home to be with his heavenly Father, November 20, 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his daughters, Patricia, Naemyra, and Rosalind, sons, Nathaniel Jr., and James and 15 grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends.
A Home Going Celebration will be conducted Saturday, December 5, 2015, 11:00 a.m., New Hope Baptist Church, Oktaha, OK; interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Oktaha, OK.
Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
