In The Beginning
Mr. Edward L. David Winn I, has always had a compassion for the care of deceased members of our society. While a junior in high school, he was introduced into funeral service by his long time mentor and friend, T.R. "Ted" Ragsdale of Ragsdale Funeral Center, Muskogee, OK. Fulfilling the states educational requirements, he matriculated, at Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, Cincinnati, OH graduating with honors in 1973. Also in that same year he returned to Oklahoma where he successfully passed his state board exams and received Funeral Directors and Embalmers licensures.
Returning to Ohio, and employed at House of Wheat Funeral Home, Dayton, OH a great friendship and camaraderie evolved, with the owner Wayne L. "Butch" Wheat. upon learning of a possible business venture in Okmulgee, OK and with his encouragement my dream became a reality. April 1, 1975 the House of Winn Funeral Home, Okmulgee, OK was opened for business, and with the Almighty's guidance much has been achieved. In 1993 the acquisition of Granger Funeral Home later renamed House of Winn Funeral Home & Cremations.
In 2023, after 50 years of serving Okmulgee, Muskogee and the surrounding communities, Edward L. "David" Winn Sr., retired. His eldest son, Edward L. David "D2" Winn II, Licensed Funeral Director and Licensed Embalmer acquired the business with thoughts of continuing the legacy.
The House of Winn Funeral Homes, truly emphasizes service to all its clientele and the Winn family will continually strive to maintain its motto, "Those Who KNOW Service Know WINN."
